Call for Mural Artist Teams

The Ink People Center for Arts and Culture seeks an artist team to design and paint a mural on the exterior of its soon-to-open art and culture hub, located at 535 5th Street, Eureka. $20,000 in grant funding is available for project materials, equipment rental, permits, artist labor, etc.

The Ink People's new location will be a welcoming and collaborative space for creative community. Intended to promote cultural vitality, artist leadership, grassroots strategies for the practice of care, youth voice, human connection, and visionary futures, the site will support galleries/showings, performances and events, cultural foodways, creative youth development, learning through forums and workshops, and playful community engagements.

Requirements: 

• Applications are due at 11:59pm on Friday, August 7th, 2026.

• Mural must be completed by October 31st, 2026.

• Teams of 2+ artists are eligible. One of which must have mural-painting experience. Muralists must live in the North Coast region (Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, Lake, and/or Mendocino Counties) with at least one team member local to Humboldt County. 

• Mural must reflect art, culture, community, environment, and/or the North Coast.

• Artist team must be willing to consult with Ink People staff and community leaders for the design process.

• Mural should cover an area approximately 800+ square feet, and some flexibility will be considered with the design. Mural will incorporate the architecture but will not cover the entirety of the facade.

• The lead muralist cannot be the recipient of a 2026 ECAD Visionary Placemaking Grant.

*Applications will be scored according to your concept/theme, the experience(s) of your team, and work samples* 

We acknowledge that this is a short timeframe! The application review team will interview up to 3 artist teams to finalize the selection. Interview selections will be made by August 15th, 2026. Teams advancing to the interview stage may be asked to create a sketch of the proposed mural and present a project budget.

This mural is funded by the Eureka Cultural Arts District Visionary Placemaking Grant with match funding from the Ink People Center for Arts and Culture.

The Eureka Cultural Arts District (ECAD) Visionary Placemaking Grant is a Large Initiative Grant dedicated to supporting impactful, long-lasting public art and cultural projects within the district. Made possible by the California Arts Council, a state agency, this grant is designed to fund monuments, murals, public art installations, and initiatives that shape enduring spaces for cultural expression and community engagement. This initiative seeks to support visionary projects that shape the cultural landscape of Eureka for years to come.
