Lost Humboldt: Promoting Humboldt County’s Art & Culture Scene

The Ink People in collaboration with the Humboldt Creative Alliance are seeking 12 artists to showcase their work as part of a "Lost Humboldt" marketing campaign. This campaign will promote the creative and cultural vibrancy of Humboldt County in order to highlight the uniqueness of our community while centering the beauty of the natural environment. Selected artists will have their work and stories featured in materials that uplift the creative sector.

Work will be in alignment with the marketing campaign theme to "Come get lost in the wilds of Humboldt County’s traditional and cutting edge arts, diverse cultures, otherworldly lore, vibrant scene, and exquisite natural beauty."

Once an artist is selected by the design review team, we will work with each artist to choose 8 images that will be used in marketing materials. These images will be used for materials such as postcards, coasters, stickers, posters, social media, website, and email promotions. The artist or culture keeper's personal story/perspective on life in Humboldt County will be included in the campaign. There is no need to create new work for this project unless the artist feels inspired to do so. We are interested in promoting the work and vision of both traditional and contemporary artists and culture keepers. Additionally, selected artists will be interviewed and photographed as part of this campaign. This program is also intended to elevate the work and the careers of the selected artists and culture keepers. The campaign's target audiences are tourism "feeder markets" for Humboldt County, including, but not limited to, LA, the Bay Area, Redding, Portland, Ashland, Mendocino, and Nevada City.

The artist will retain ownership of their copyright while granting a license for promotional use through a licensing agreement. This will allow the selected artists to control how their work is used, while the licensee gets permission to use it for the specific purposes of this campaign.

This endeavor is supported by Measure J through the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors in order to promote economic wellbeing and resilience through the arts, culture, and tourism sector.

If interested, please submit a portfolio or sample of your work (3-5 images), and answer the questions provided. Diverse / BIPOC / underrepresented artists and culture keepers are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to culture keepers and artists who are in alignment with the values of the Ink People and the Humboldt Creative Alliance.

The available funds are $1000 for the licensing of 8 images and an interview and photoshoot to be used across permissible platforms. Future opportunities or additional pay may be available for further development of the campaign if opportunity allows. The deadline for submissions is May 23, 2025 at 11:59pm.

If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact the Humboldt Creative Alliance Marketing Director, Erica Davie, at erica@inkpeople.org
