Mural Apprentice Program
Restored mural at Cutten Elementary School, 2026.
Our mission at M.A.P. is to teach the skills and techniques needed to create a professional mural. The goal is to educate local artists on how to properly design, transfer, and paint a successful, long-lasting mural. By first participating in others murals, the program will teach by doing.
“An older mural is new again.
A 33-year-old underwater-themed outdoor work of art painted in 1993 at Cutten Elementary School by artist Paula Cunningham recently got a splash of new color and some additional sea creatures added in thanks to the efforts of former teacher Linda Forbes, local “Mural Man” Ben Goulart, several budding muralists and a crew of young students.
This (is) my first full mural restoration, and it felt good to preserve a local mural that is loved by everyone,” said Goulart, who has been painting murals for 30 years throughout California, including many in Humboldt County.”
